After releasing the closed alpha version of "Smite" on Friday, developer Hi-Rez Studios announced that they would be officially launching the closed beta of the popular third-person multiplayer online battle arena video game for PlayStation 4. "Smite" is already available on Xbox One and PC, while the closed beta version of the game is scheduled to arrive on PS4 in March.

The closed beta of the popular MOBA game will offer many new skins for the gods of "Smite," PlayStation Blog stated. PlayStation 4 players will be able to unlock the "World's Collide" skin of Odin by connecting their consoles to the PC accounts of Hi-Rez and gain access to Kulkulkan's "KuKu4" skin. However, this facility will only be offered to PS Plus members.

The game will be free-to-play, following the official launch of "Smite" on PlayStation 4, and players will get access to five gods including Thor, Ra, Ymir, Neith and Guan Yu without having to pay anything extra. On the other hand, players will also get the opportunity to purchase the Founder's Pack for $30, which will help them to unlock all the present as well as future gods, 400 Gems, in addition to several exclusive god skins. Players who will purchase the Founder's Pack during the game's beta period will also get access to closed beta.

"Smite" was first released in 2014 for PC, and launched on Xbox One in the following year. According to Hi-Rez, there are currently more than 14 million players enjoying the game worldwide, making it the largest ever MOBA game that will be launched on PS4 from PC.

Although Hi-Rez did not announce the specific date for releasing "Smite" on PS4, the latest announcement accompanies a PS4 FAQ, Game Spot reported. The PS4 FAQ states that the game will make cross platform play technically possible; however, currently, there are no plans for the said cross platform. What is important is that Hi-Rez will enable players to transfer data from alpha, to beta, to launch.

According to the same media outlet, the PS4 version of "Smite" does not come as a complete surprise, as a listing from the European ratings board PEGI had earlier disclosed that a PS4 version of the game was on the way.
