Disha Patani, an Indian model turned actress, is set to make her international acting debut via "Kung Fu Yoga." The film is a collaboration between Indo and Chinese filmmakers, which will feature international superstar Jackie Chan as the lead role.
Before becoming a model and actress, the glamorous lady was first runner-up at the 2013 Femina Miss India Indore. Her popularity hit the roof after starring as the lead actress in the 2015 Telugu film "Loafer," which was directed by acclaimed filmmaker Puri Jagannadh.
It was said that the producers of "Kung Fu Yoga" chose Patani because she exhibited great skills in gymnastics that is perfect for her character as an archaeology professor, who is also expert in yoga and martial arts, Times of India reported.
Apparently, her training in the sport will make it easier for her to execute the stunts and other crazy action scenes that have become a trademark of Chan films. Patani will be Chan's love interest in the movie, but she will be punching and kicking alongside the action superstar as they hunt for India's lost Magadha treasure in Tibet.
The actress' role was originally offered to Bollywood star Katrina Kaif. She already starred in many action movies so it was first thought that she will be in "Kung Fu Yoga."
However, as her inclusion in the movie was not yet finalized at that time, there have been developments in the casting decisions. In the end, the producers and director picked Patani.
At any rate, in addition to the former beauty queen, other Indian actors including Amyra Dastur, Sonu Sood and Arif Rahman are also participating in the action-packed flick. Famous director Stanley Tong will take the helm of this big production project.
Finally, according to Telugu Cinema, the cast and crew already completed their filming schedule in China and Dubai. Now, they are in Iceland to shoot some scenes and will proceed to India for a short period. The last shooting locations were not mentioned but the team is already wrapping up the filming.
"Kung Fu Yoga" is slated to premiere in theaters in 2016.
