The addition of a dashcam on vehicles has helped capture a lot of action on the road, especially unexpected events such as road accidents and celestial phenomena.
One such recent event is a child falling from a minivan onto the busy highway in Jiangsu Province which was captured by a dashcam of the vehicle following the minivan. But the two-year-old boy managed to stand up, although it look dazed by the fast turn of events.
The driver and passengers of the next vehicle stopped and picked up the toddler. A second vehicle whose driver also witnessed the incident ran after the minivan to inform the owner who was unaware what happened to the boy.
Yang Defu, the grandfather, told CCTV, “I was waiting at the red light. After passing the intersection a car chased after me and kept sounding the horn … The driver told me a kid fell out of my van. I looked back, parked my van aside, and went back to search for my grandson.”
The minivan, it turned out, was hit on its back part a few days ago, destroying the tailgate lock of the vehicle. The boy, at the start of the journey, sat at the passenger seat but crawled to the vehicle’s back part when Yang drove it. The toddler accidentally hit the broken lock when the minivan sped after stopping at the intersection, the old man unaware of what happened.
Yang returned to the intersection and got back his grandson. Although the video of the dashcom became viral on social media, Yang was on the receiving end of netizens’ criticism for not using a child seat on his grandson.
After the incident, Jiangsu police reminded vehicle owners and drivers to always practice child passenger safety, reported Huffington Post. Measures include using age- and size-appropriate car seats, booster seats and seat belts.
