Before playing the title role in "Thor: Ragnarok," Chris Hemsworth will be seen in the "Ghostbusters" reboot. The all-female main cast of the upcoming film includes Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.
In "Ghostbusters," Hemsworth plays Kevin, the sexy secretary of the Ghostbusters team. The character is similar to Janine Melnitz (Annie Potts) from the original version.
The last film Hemsworth starred in was the 2015 biopic "In the Heart of the Sea," in which he played Owen Chase. He will play the titled role in "The Huntsman: Winter's War" before "Ghostbusters" hits theaters on July 15.
On March 3, Thursday, Sony released the first trailer for the upcoming "Ghostbusters" reboot. The clip, which runs two minutes and 37 seconds, starts with a scene echoing the original version released in 1984.
The trailer opens with paranormal researcher Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy) and particle physicist Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig) in a library. The two approach a female ghost that answers with a torrent of ectoplasm.
Nuclear engineer Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon) joins the team and serves as their inventor. Subway token booth clerk Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones) eventually completes the team.
A new twist is featured in the reboot. As the trailer shows, the ghosts are capable of possessing humans.
On March 2, Wednesday, a preview audience participated in the event on the Sony lot for the trailer. During the event, director Paul Feig explained that the upcoming film is a not a sequel but a reboot and told the audience that he did not like the idea of the new Ghostbusters being handed technology.
"I want to see it developed," Variety quoted Feig as saying. "We give them their own original origin story and play with that."
Recently, Michael K. Williams also revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he is playing Hawkins, the FBI agent who works for the mayor, and will have a scene with the Slimer. He also gave nothing but good words about McCarthy, Wiig, McKinnon and Jones.
