In 2005, Waititi's short film "Two Cars, One Night" was nominated Best Short Film, Live Action but lost to Andrea Arnold's "Wasp."
In 2011, Waititi played Tom Kalmaku in "Green Lantern," which starred Reynolds as the title role, Lively, who is shutting down her lifestyle website Preserve, as Carol Ferris, Jay O. Sanders as Carl Ferris, Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond, Mark Strong as Sinestro, Tim Robbins as Hammond and Angela Bassett as Doctor Waller, among others.
Waititi is the director of the 2016 comedy film "Hunt for the Wilderpeople," which he is currently filming. In 2014, he starred in the comedy horror "What We Do in the Shadows," in which he also starred opposite Jemaine Clement and Cori Gonzalez-Macauer.
Prior to the 2017 film "Thor: Ragnarok," "Thor" was directed by Kenneth Branagh and "Thor: The Dark World" was directed by Alan Taylor.
Marvel has yet to officially confirm Waititi as the director of "Thor: Ragnarok," which will star "The Night Manager" actor Tom Hiddleston as Loki, "Ghostbusters" actor Chris Hemsworth as Thor and "Blindspot" star Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif.
