According to the latest box office updates, "London has Fallen" did not perform as well as other movies in the opening this week.
Performance results posted on Box Office website show that the film took an estimated $850,000 on March 3, Thursday, night. The movie's accomplishment in consistence with performances of other movies opening in the week was poor.
The film's performance as of now can only be compared to its predecessor "Olympus has Fallen." However, it was somehow expected that the film would not go this high.
According to Deadline, "London has Fallen" is slotting second with $7.5 Million after Disney's "Zootopia" which is currently leading with a projected hook of $ 16.5M before March 5, Saturday. As estimated, it will hit the $22 million mark during the weekend.
In relation to the 25 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes as of March 4, "London has Fallen" is less liked by critics than the first secret service movie "Olympus has Fallen." For that reason, the estimated earnings will have to go against odds so as to please the sponsors.
In the meantime, commentators have asserted that "London has Fallen" has tried to harken back to the type of mainstream Hollywood action movies that were fashionable back in the 1990s. Just like the Hollywood action genre of the 90's, it has been said that the film has embraced the "bigger is better" slogan probably in a bid to outdo its predecessor.
Just like "Olympus has Fallen," the new film embraces a picture where the White House and the commander in chief are under siege by terrorists. It uses the same scenario in the first movie only that it is now played on a global basis where the word's leaders gather in London for the funeral of a British Prime minister. It is at this juncture that hell breaks loose and the dignitaries get attacked by terrorists.
Several presidents are assassinated while some of the city's landmarks get blown to bits. Once again, Secret Service agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) has the responsibility to protect President Asher (Aaron Eckhart).
This means the new film's storyline is entirely based on the first one, and this has raised the influence of critics since the movie's release on March 4. At a budget of $105 million, the promoters of "London has Fallen" can only hope for the best in the coming days.
