The NBA Rumors continue and one of the biggest questions would be the landing spot for Dwight Howard.
After the awkward failed trade attempts and the rumored rift between James Harden and Dwight Howard, it's a safe bet that both Howard and the Rockets would want to end their union when the season ends.
Speculation has been rampant with so many teams being attached to Dwight: Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Dallas Mavericks and recently the Milwaukee Bucks were all rumored players for D12's services during the trade deadline. Now, they have to sign him at the end of the season if (and he already declared that he would) he opts out of his contract.
According to Ian Begley of ESPN, the New York Knicks would be players for the three-time Defensive Player of the Year.
"Along those lines, one name to keep in mind this summer is Dwight Howard.
Some of Howard's friends have let it be known recently that the center would be interested in coming to New York as a free agent if he opts out of his current contract, league sources say," Begley wrote. "Whether Jackson and the Knicks would be interested in a player like Howard is another question entirely."
It has been speculated that rookie sensation Kristaps Porzingis would fit well with Howard but the Knicks would create another conundrum, according to Sir Charles In Charge.
"With that said, Begley brings up an interesting point: would the Knicks even want to give the big money that Dwight Howard would probably want this summer?
Considering that the team just spent money on a starting center last summer (Robin Lopez), why would the Knicks - again - throw money into their center position?" SCIC asked.
Robin Lopez was given a lengthy contract by the Knicks when they struck out on LaMarcus Aldridge. Lopez was supposed to be their rim protector and would also pick up the rebounds. While RoLo has not been much of a disappointment (since expectations on him were not that high), Howard, even at 30 years old would still be a an upgrade.
But it's a valid question for the Knicks. Howard could command a max salary and even if the Knicks had the cap space, would they agree to put all their marbles on Howard especially when they badly need a point guard?
