Chinese actress Sun Li is a soft-spoken person, but her role as concubine Zhen Huan calls for her to be a tough woman especially as she plays China’s first empress dowager.
Her role calls for the 33-year-old actress to manipulate politics among Emperor Yong Zheng’s concubines at the Qing dynasty’s imperial palace. She is definitely back in the palace in the period epic show “Legend Of Mi Yue,” reported Strait Times.
Sun Li admitted, “I get nervous when I have to raise my voice in a room full of people. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to emanate a domineering aura in the royal court.” She pointed out that in “Legend of Zhen Huan,” her character spoke to women, while for “Legend Of Mi Yue,” she needs to convince male officials that she is a capable leader.
According to Sina, a news site in China, Sun delivered because Chinese viewers loved the epic drama that TV channels Tianjin Satellite Channel and Liaoning Satellite TV aired the series a second time in February.
Sun was a contestant in 2011 at “Star Search, the TV talent show of Channel 8. She did not win but got noticed and acting jobs, first in Singapore. However, she eventually became known as Queen of Television in China. Among her TV acting credits are “Jade Goddess of Mercy,” a romantic comedy shown in 2003 and “Hot Mum!” a contemporary series aired in 2013.
She starred in the 2015 movie “Devil And Angel,” a comedy, with Deng Chao, her husband who also directed the flick. Deng, though, is now known as the leading man in Stephen Chow’s “The Mermaid.”
For Sun Li’s role in “Legend of Zhen Huan,” she was nominated for an International Emmy in the Best Actress category, reported Hujiang.
