The sexual harassment accusation against LA Lakers players Nick Young and Jordan Clarkson may just be another attention grabbing attempt or a misunderstanding.
The players disputed the charges, as stated in the LA Times. Young posted a tweet (since deleted) that stated: "Aye if you want some attention take a pic of me and say anything next to it and post... The world we live in."
The Times also stated that "Jones uploaded photos of Young and Clarkson in a car on her Instagram page. The players were not gesturing in the photos."
According to Mark Medina of the LA Daily News, Young is "considering filing a lawsuit against Jones, according to a source familiar with his thinking."
In the meantime, the Lakers issued an official statement on the matter.
"We've looked into the situation and spoken to Alexis Jones as well as to Nick Young and Jordan Clarkson. Based on these conversations, our conclusion is that there are different interpretations of what happened. We support Nick and Jordan and believe what they told us about the incident and their actions. We also are supportive of Alexis and her feelings about what happened, about women's rights, and of the fine work Alexis is doing with her organization. I had several conversations with Alexis and her publicist, and tried to arrange a meeting between her, Nick and Jordan. Unfortunately, Alexis's schedule didn't allow for this to happen yesterday. We will also continue to stay in touch with her about the possibility of addressing our team about the important issues with which she's involved."
At this point, the Lakers are not releasing any comments or disputes from the side of Clarkson and Young. The investigation also appears to have ended for the team.
There are some comments that question the veracity of the accusations considering that it Alexis Jones is an activist and if this issue goes viral (and it has) it will forward her agenda.
The comments on her original Instagram post (as posted yesterday in a previous report) were also not very encouraging for her. There are also those who claimed that Jones actually followed Nick Young and Jordan Clarkson on Instagram (which would refute the claim that she did not know who they were) but those have not been verified.
The Lakers decision to keep mum and settle the issue between the two parties seems to be the best way to handle it.
