Thanks to the reported high sales numbers of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, Samsung is reportedly advancing the Galaxy Note 6 commercial debut with the release date to happen as early as July 2016. The unpacking could also see the Note 6 priced lower than its closest rivals, Apple's iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, a new report said.
In time for the Galaxy Note 6 rollout, Samsung will use a new playbook and one that proved effective for the Galaxy S7, Bloomberg reported. The new strategy calls for the Note 6 to hit store shelves ahead of expectation or at least earlier than the Galaxy Note 5 did in 2015.
There was no specific timing mentioned in the Bloomberg story but the best guess is July for two reasons. One is that the Note 5 debuted August last year and as analysts have been predicting Samsung would not want its second 2016 flagship to engage in a close slugfest with any of the iPhone 7 or 7 Plus.
So July 2016 is possibly the best bet for the South Korean tech giant, way ahead of the 2016 iPhones' rollout time that normally is set September.
"We expect Samsung to release the Note 6 a month or two before the Apple iPhone 7, to try and grab that window of opportunity," Bloomberg quoted a Strategy Analytics as saying.
Also part of the new Samsung smartphone selling tactic is pricing its flagships significantly lower compared to the iPhone asking price, which was the case with the Galaxy S7. The same Bloomberg report was without pricing details but in order to convince shoppers to look beyond the iPhone 7, the Galaxy Note 6 must have a starting price of no more than $650, which likely will be the sticker price of the basic next iPhone model.
The main goal underpinning the strategy is to "sway upgraders and first-time buyers ... by releasing (the Galaxy Note 6) sooner and pricing it cheaper," the report said.
The sequel to the Galaxy Note 5 is rumored to touchdown with most of the feature upgrades delivered by Samsung with the GS7 - a bigger battery, waterproofing and dust protection and the return of microSD slot that takes in up to 200GB of extra device memory.
And with the Galaxy Note 6 release date likely to be advanced July, one more thing could favor the sixth original phablet from Samsung - the likelihood of not only running Android N first (next to Nexus 2016) but also of rendering the Google mobile OS in considerably restraint version, just like the Galaxy S7 is.
