A video originally posted on Sina Weibo showing six bulldozers fighting has gone viral on the Chinese social media site. The scene looks like a transformer fight scene, but in reality, the battle was over contracts.
The one-minute video starts with just two bulldozers shoving each other until one falls, prompting a third bulldozer to join the fight. While this ruckus is going on, cars could be seen passing by and avoiding the battle among heavy equipment.
Gizmodo described the battle like deer butting each other with their antlers, only this time the bulldozer operators use their blade or bucket to hit each other. According to Associated Press, the construction workers were from two competing companies who used their equipment, rather than fists, to settle a dispute.
The incident happened in Xingtang County, Hebei Province, according to Xu Feng, spokesman of a local government unit in the Chinese province. Xu said there is an ongoing investigation of the bulldozer fight. However, until the probe is done, he cannot provide details about injuries and arrests.
Competition is apparently very stiff in China’s construction industry which is facing financial problems due to the economic contraction. Because of the slowdown in China’s once red-hot real estate construction sector, which is about 25 percent of China’s economy, other industrial sectors are feeling the ripple effect of the slowdown, particularly the steel, glass and cement industries as demand for these products as well as services decline, leading to layoffs.
The video, also posted on YouTube with almost 60,000 hits in one day, got interesting comments from some viewers.
Kogan Kayumi said “This is how civilized people fight..no guns no knife..” Angga Ft commented the bulldozers are the best gladiators in town.
