Chinese original equipment manufacturer Huawei released in April its new iPhone look-alike P9, the successor of its flagship P8. Though it does not have the mechanical home button, P9 has iPhone's finish, fingerprint sensor, antenna bands, styling and the star-shaped security screw in the same spot.
The screw called pentalobe keeps anyone from opening the handset and prevents the recycling of the device, according to Wired. P9 comes with its bigger variant, P9 Plus.
The Chinese computing firm announced in the second half of 2015 Mate S and Mate 8 which received accolades. The new flagship duo, P9 and P9 Plus have the slogan: "change the way you see the world."
Its predecessor Huawei P8 comes in 144.9 x 72.1 x 6.44mm and weighs 144 grams, while the new P9 measures 145 x 70.9 x 6.95mm and has the same weight as the P8. P9 is slightly thicker and less wide.
P8 is already a light and slim handset with an all-metal build. At its rear is a plastic antenna strip at the top where the camera is while the bottom has a thinner strip. Its maker's logo is sitting towards the top.
The edges of Huawei P8's metal body look premium and the device feels slender in the pocket or hand, according to Pocket-Lint. The phone is available in Titanium Grey and Champagne Gold.
The P9 is similar to P8 but has a fingerprint scanner and comes in Rose Gold, Prestige Gold, Mystic Silver and Titanium Grey. The P9 Deluxe model has Ceramic White and Haze Gold versions.
The Huawei P8's 5.2-inch screen offers a full HD resolution of 424ppi. It gives great viewing angles with bright but not overbearing colors. P9 comes in a similar size, while its bigger brother sports 5.5-inch display.
The new P9 increases its display's brightness up to 500. Hence, it is a bit punchier and brighter than the P8. It drops pixel density to 401ppi and adds pressure sensitive to its display, just like Mate S.
One of P8's great assets is its 13MP rear camera with optical image stabilization, 4/2.0 aperture and RGBW sensor for better brightness in shots. The P9s have 12MP dual rear cameras with the Leica technology and Sony-made sensors.
One sensor is monochrome while the other is RGB. P8 and P9 have the same front-facing 8MP cameras but the bigger P9 adds autofocus to the snapper.
P9 is powered by the homemade Kirin 955 chip which works with a 16GB storage and 3GB RAM, 2680mAh battery and a charging via a micro USB. It comes in choices of 32GB internal storage-3GB RAM and 64GB storage-4GB RAM. Running the new flagships are Android Marshmallow and Huawei's EMUI 4.1.
