Fans of Sony will be glad to know that the PlayStation NEO, or the PlayStation 4.5, could have the processing power to render games in virtual reality for better immersion.
Microsoft and Sony has taken the top spots in the console wars, but the current gen consoles are starting to age. Now, the two tech giants are reportedly developing two new consoles.
However, the new PlayStation NEO, or the PlayStation 4.5, will only be an upgraded to the current PS4. It will have upgraded specs inside for an overall more powerful console.
Meanwhile, Microsoft is reportedly developing the Xbox Two. Reports are claiming that it will be more powerful than the PS4.5 or the PS4K.
Sony's new PlayStation NEO console would still be more powerful than the current-gen consoles though. Earlier reports have claimed that it will be able to run new games at probably more than 60 frames per second for better fluidity in motion.
The name PS4K also comes from the reports that it will also be able to run games in 4K while still providing good frame rates. Unfortunately, it hasn't been confirmed if old PS4 titles will be compatible with the upgraded version.
With eight 2.1GHZ AMD Jaguar CPU cores, it is hard not to believe that the PlayStation NEO will be able to handle the VR headset from Sony. The PlayStation 4.5 will also be coupled with an 8GB GDDR5 memory, CNET has learned.
Processing power is one of the most crucial requirements in running VR games, which need to be viewed at a specific framerate to avoid nausea. The new upgraded console from Sony would have what it takes considering that the PS4 is already supported by the PSVR.
The release dates for the VR headset and the PlayStation NEO are also expected during the holiday season, Tech News Today has reported. If fans are lucky, they could have a glimpse of the console in action during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in June.
Sony has not yet officially announced the new console yet. Even Microsoft is still quiet about their rumored Xbox Two or the Xbox NeXt.
In a few weeks, Sony could then reveal the PlayStation NEO, or the PlayStation 4.5 and confirm whether it will be supported by the PSVR. The company could also announce the official pricing for the console.
