Chelsea Handler has a new talk show in Netflix and it is not going to be your average type of late night entertainment. Titled "Chelsea," the 30-minute show will not just offer viewers Handler's brash kind of humor but will also delve on controversial issues such as abortion, drugs, and polygamy among others.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show will feature taped field segments where Handler will immerse herself in various types of experimental situations relevant to today's issues. Celebrities are also set to appear for a one-on-one interview with Handler.
One of the highlights this season is an episode where Handler and a personal trainer smokes pot because the trainer believes that marijuana has a good effect while working out, the publication wrote. Viewers will also find the 42-year-old host dealing with a group of trans women, electoral college and a polygamist family.
The setting of "Chelsea" has a rotating Lazy Susan-type of stage with multiple sections which will be used depending on the segment. A live audience will also join the setup similarly to her previous talk show on E! but Chuy, her sidekick will not be making any appearances. It is possible, though, that Handler's father and some of her friends will pop up from time to time.
In the premiere, Drew Barrymore sat down with Handler on the couch to discuss her divorce from husband Will Kopelman and their marriage woes. Barrymore joins other guest stars Gwyneth Paltrow and the cast of "Captain America: Civil War."
Handler previewed what her followers and fans can expect from this latest project with Netflix and she said that it will not run within a controlled environment. Unlike "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" and other late night talk shows, "Chelsea" will not follow the same format viewers have been used to she said.
"You're not going to turn it on three nights a week and have an opening monologue, a guest, and a band," she told Fast Company. "It'll be completely different."
In January, Handler also worked with the streaming giant when she launched "Chesea Does". The four-part docuseries tackled various issues like marriage, drugs and the tech industry.
