A recent job posting on the Apple website has sparked a worldwide speculation whether the company is developing its very own search engine. The project known only as "Apple Search" is yet to be confirmed but it seems that Apple is knocking on Google's door in terms of search engine domination.
The job posted on the Apple website clearly says that the company is in need of an "Engineering Project Manager" that will "play a part in revolutionizing how people use their computers and mobile devices," according to Seach Engine Land.
The job description itself is a little vague and Apple has yet to issue a comment about it. However, many analysts suspect that Apple is serious in making its own search engine.
Apple's web browser, Safari, is currently using Google as its default search engine. However, the deal between Apple and Google is fast approaching its end early this year and Microsoft along with Yahoo is joining the bandwagon in order to win the spot as Safari's default search engine.
The race is getting more interesting considering the fact that Apple is in deep developmental stage for its "Apple Search" project.
Apple has also removed Google Maps and YouTube on its default iOS apps. Apple's digital assistant Siri is also tapping the services of Bing, Yahoo and Wikipedia instead of relying on Google. This subtle changes implemented on Apple devices has helped in suppressing Google's stranglehold on iOS users, according to Engadget.
Lately, Mozilla also dropped Google as its default search engine on its Firefox browser. The move has led to a sharp drop in terms of Google's search engine market share. Google search engine usage fell from 82 percent to 64 percent in just a matter of three months since Mozilla's decision.
Both Google and Apple have yet to release an official statement regarding the situation.
