Twitter is fighting to maintain its growth rate and Apple is making it harder to reach its objective. The tweet company lost 4 million of its users as the iPhone tech company launched its iOS 8.
The roll-out of the latest operating system of Apple, iOS 8, apparently had issues with Twitter's compatibility. The users of iOS 8 had difficulty with the Shared Links feature when using a mobile Safari browser which supposedly shows links from people's Twitter followers, according to PC World.
Q4 of 2014 brought Twitter good and bad news, the sales beat the company's projected earnings per share and revenue but did not meet Wall Street's target for monthly active users. The San Francisco based tech giant disclosed on Thursday that it reached 288 million monthly active users in the final quarter of 2014 while it was analyzed to reach up to 295 million users. Normally the number of active users on the last quarter of each year goes up by 20 percent year after year. However, compared to Twitter's third quarter results, only 4 million new users were added this time around, IB Times reported.
Twitter blames the rolling out of Apple's latest iOS 8 operating system that caused them to lose millions of its users. The integration of iOS 8 and Twitter app had compatibility issues.
"There was an 'unforeseen bug' in the release of iOS 8 as it related to Twitter, we moved on multiple fronts to minimize its impact but it wasn't a one-size-fits-all fix." Twitter CEO Dick Costolo was quoted by Bloomberg as saying, during the earnings call on Feb. 5, Thursday.
