Roman Reigns and C.J Styles will duke it out one more time for the WWE World Heavyweight championship in a match that is expected to be way more brutal and a lot bloodier than the previous one. This is WWE Extreme Rules, the only time in the year when everything goes extreme.
What's at stake: Reigns seeks to extend the Roman Empire, his reign as the top man in the WWE. After seizing his 'moment' at Wrestlemania 32 by beating Triple H in the main event, Reigns found himself in not only a highly-physical but also emotional confrontation with Style, the man touted as one of the finest wrestlers in the business.
Over the last four weeks, the WWE universe has been treated with some of the best main event match-up on Raw. Unfortunately for Reigns, all the credits are being given to Styles and his irresistible ring presence. At Extreme Rules, Reigns is not only looking to keep the belt around his waist. We should also expect him to take his game to another level to prove that he's indeed worthy of the title as the face of this new Era.
It's time for him to show the ruthless aggression and guts shown by all the great champions before him, or else he will continue to be on the receiving end of the mockery of an increasingly frustrated WWE fanbase.
On the other hand, Styles keeps on thriving as the de-facto leader of the Club - the WWE's reincarnation of the worldwide famous stable 'the Bullet Club.' Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows may have exceeded everybody's expectation as destructive duo, but Style remains the guy that makes the act work seamlessly.
The question now isn't about Styles' ability to carry the role as the WWE's top man because we all know this superstar has the complete package to pull it off. Honestly, Styles' chance of hoisting the crown entirely depends on Vince McMahon on whether or not he's ready to put a quick end on the Reigns Empire and usher a new one with Styles as the top cog.
Prediction: Unfortunately for WWE universe, Reigns' era will not cease to exist at Extreme Rules. The McMahons are very much invested to have the brawny Samoan superstar holding that belt at least for the next six months. It would take a miracle to convince WWE creative and its bosses that the Phenomenal is the way of the future. So sorry Styles, it's hard to accept it but your first run at the WWE World Heavyweight championship will end this Sunday at Extreme Rules.
