Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced recently that it has already sold more than 40 million PlayStation 4 units all over the world. Sony president Andrew House said in a statement that it was because of the gaming content that is being offered to the players.
The latest video game console of Sony has been sold over 40 million units all worldwide as of May 22, which makes it the fastest-selling console in the history of the gaming company, according to PR Newswire. This has also shown that the software sales for the video game console have remained strong. The game company has sold more than 270.9 million copies all over the world through retail stores and its online shop, the PlayStation network.
House said that the main reason why the PS4 continues to sell well was because of the exclusive and expansive gaming content that they offered. One of the examples used was Naughty Dog's recent release, which was "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End." The video game sold more than 2.7 million copies just in its first week since it was released.
According to Gamespot, its predecessor sold more than 80 million units worldwide as of 2013, which was seven years after its first worldwide release. The PS4 now is in its third year on sale and it is still rising. Many analysts have predicted that Sony's latest gaming console will sell more than 100 million units worldwide before its life cycle is done.
The Sony president also said that they will work harder to deliver more exciting gaming experiences for their users. They will also be expanding their PS4 platform and its business for this fiscal year by offering new video games, and to introduce their new virtual reality system called the PlayStation VR. He also thanked the fans and their partners across the globe, which helped achieve their success in just a short time.
In other news, Sony and Microsoft are expected to show some new items at E3 2016. A new slim version of the Xbox One console is expected to be revealed on the Microsoft side, while Sony is also expected to reveal their new PS4 Neo, which is rumored to have new specifications that enhance graphics and gameplay.
