I.O.I members Kim Sejong, Kang Mina, and Jung Chaeyeon will most likely not join units of the girl group that will be promoting this summer.
YMC Entertainment, the agency handling I.O.I, confirmed that the girls will be promoting in units.
In a statement, the agency said:
"You all have given a lot of love and interest to IOI, who are promoting 'Dream Girls', and sadly, they will wrap up promotions for their first album at the 'Dream Concert' on June 4.
After promoting with 11 members first, IOI's second album is planned to be promoted in units...
Furthermore, the members who will not participate in the unit promotions are returning to their respective agencies. We ask that you continue supporting them and giving them love as they're planning to continue meeting you all with their own activities."
Although the label did not specify which girls will compose the unit, but it is most likely that the Jellyfish girls, Kim Sejong and Kang Mina, will go back to their own label. Jellyfish Entertainment announced that the girls who joined the reality TV show "Produce 101" will debut in June.
Meanwhile, Jung Chaeyeon, who debuted under MBK Entertainment's DIA, confirmed that she will join the group for their comeback. The label did not spill the actual date of the comeback, but it was rumored that the girls will be back for the summer.
Fans are starting to speculate which girls will be featured in the unit group or how many units will be promoting in the rest of the year's contract. However, one thing is for sure, YMC Entertainment is milking the girls' fame following the survival program.
I.O.I is set to disband after a year, until January 2017.
