The WWE just made one of the fans' dream matches official as John Cena and A.J. Styles face off for the first time ever at "Money in the Bank." According to the latest rumors, the feud between Cena and Styles will stretch for months and it could end up being for SmackDown's own world championship.
The leader of Cenation returned from his shoulder injury on the Memorial Day episode of Monday Night Raw. He was greeted by The Phenomenal One and it was given a big pop by the Green Bay crowd at the Resch Center.
Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson interrupted the segment with Cena and Styles ready to protect themselves. However, to the shock of many fans and the joy of Cena haters, the former Bullet Club leader turned heel and attacked the 15-time WWE world champion.
Many expected the match at "Money in the Bank" to be announced and the storyline could last for a couple more months. There is also the upcoming brand extension and WWE superstar draft that can affect any wrestler on the main roster.
According to Cageside Seats, the current plan is to place both Cena and Styles on SmackDown as the top babyface and heel for the brand. It also believed that there are still plans on introducing a second world championship and both superstars may be fighting for it.
The main reason why the WWE decided to have a brand split is to boost the ratings of SmackDown at the instructions of the USA Network. The show will also start airing live on Tuesday nights starting on July 19.
The WWE's top drawing star is still Cena and it is a great move to put him on SmackDown as it is sure that he will help the ratings. His recent return drew big numbers for Raw considering that it went toe-to-toe with the 2016 NBA Finals Game 1between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers.
According to Wrestling Inc, the May 30 episode of Raw drew an average of 3.229 million viewers and it ranked third on cable. It fell behind the NBA Finals and Inside The NBA but it is a great sign that most fans still watched Raw.
