"Sword Art Online" anime development team recently unveiled the title of the next movie in the series during the 2016 Dengeki Bunko Haru no Saiten event. The upcoming anime will be called "Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale," and it will release in Japan in 2017.

More information has surfaced online with regard to the setting, hinting that the upcoming anime will be set in 2022. The storyline of the upcoming movie reveals that a brilliant programmer, Akihiko Kayaba, has developed an invention that topples the virtual reality world, according to the movie's official website. Kayaba's invention called NerveGear is the first full-drive system.

From the storyline, a contemporary machine called Augma is developed in 2016. The device is supposed to compete with Amusphere and NerveGear. The problem is that Augma has no full-drive functionality that was associated with previous machines.

As a result, Augma relies on Augmented Reality that allows humans to penetrate the virtual world. Augma user-friendly, allowing humans to both enter the virtual world and play consciously. Fans will discover that "Ordinal Scale" game is critical in the system, and it is specifically developed for the Augma system.
