The former "Voice" contestant Christina Grimmie died on June 11, Saturday in a tragic concert shooting. The 22-year-old songstress was shot by a stranger after her Orlando concert when she was signing autographs for her fans. Soon after her death, millions of her fans and celebrities took to Twitter to express their grief and #RIPChristina and #RIPChristinaGrimmie started trending on the microblogging website. Here are few things to know about the incredibly talented singer star.
Grimmie was a former "The Voice" contestant. She appeared in Season 6 (2014) of NBC's popular music talent show. She was on Adam Levine's team and finished at third place. Her journey on "The Voice" began with a four-chair-turn-around the performance of Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball." Even though she ended up at third place, after Josh Kaufman (winner) and Jake Worthington (first runner-up), Coach Adam Levine promised to sign her to his label 222 Records. Even Lil Wayne offered to sign her up to his label.
The New Jersey native is best known for YouTube covers of popular singers of Miley Cyrus, Nelly, Katy Perry and more. She launched her YouTube channel in 2009 when she was just 15. Her work was loved and cherished by fans all around the world. Today, her channel zeldaxlove64 Christina Grimmie has more than 3,200,00 subscribers and more than 370,000,000 views.
Her popularity on the video sharing website earned her second place in MyYouTube competition wherein she beat Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, and Justin Bieber. In 2010, she was discovered by Brian Teefey, Selena Gomez's stepfather. Later, Gomez mentored her and Grimmie also opened for Selena Gomez and the Scene, Allstar Weekend, Jonas Brothers during Concert of Hope.
On Disney.com, Grimmie had her own web show titled "Power Up with Christina Grimmie." She released her first Extended play "Find Me" in 2011 under Creative Artists Agency, who have signed music sensations like Christina Aguilera. The album ranked number 11 on the Billboard. Her second album "Side A" was recently released in 2016. At its peak time, it reached position 35 on Billboard.
