AMD shook the PC gaming world when it unveiled the $200 Radeon RX 480 video card and now leaked benchmarks show how powerful it is. Clue: it can beat the GTX 980.

The full specifications of the AMD Radeon RX 480 have not been revealed yet by the company. No benchmarks have surfaced yet until the recent two that show off what the Polaris card can do.

One leaked benchmark in particular shows the card beating one of the strongest GPUs from NVIDIA's 900 series. Of course, the benchmark results itself cannot be verified as of now.

The 3DMark Fire Strike Ultra benchmark results in the leaked data show that the AMD Raden RX 480 beats the GTX 980 4GB model by more than a hundred points, TweakTown has learned. Interestingly, the R9 NANO 4GB model then beats the new Polaris card by roughly 200 points.

At the top of the benchmark results is still the GTX 1080 with over 5000 points, which is a bit under than the initial data has shown. It is followed by an overclocked GTX 1070 which is the only one OCed in the list.

Another benchmark was also spotted carrying the scores for the AMD Radeon RX 480. The 3DMark 11 Performance score for the Polaris card sits at over 14000, Forbes reported. If the score is to be translated to performance, it would mean that the Rx 480 performs better than the GTX 970 and the Radeon 390 under DirectX 11.

While the first benchmark spotted had no details about the paired CPU, the second benchmark reads that the card was paired with an i7-4770 processor from Intel. The score also puts the Polaris card above VR rig scores which means that it can definitely power up the Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive VR headsets.

AMD has not yet unveiled a release date for the Radeon Rx 480 Polaris card but the $200 price may seem like it would be worth the wait. In addition, the unverified performance from the benchmark leaks show that it could at beat the GTX 980 and the GTX 970 by a small percentage.
