"Three Christs" who already cast Richard Gere as Milton Rokeach adds Peter Dinklage, Bradley Whitford and Walton Goggins of "Game of Thrones," "Transparent" and "Justified." Jon Avnet, whose works include "Risky Business" and "Friend Green Tomatoes" is in the directorial chair and he also writes the current adaptation of Eric Nazarian's script.
Avnet's upcoming movie is based on the 1964 controversial case study: "Three Christs of Ypsilanti: A Psychological Study." The study is a biographical novel, a narrative study of three lost men adapted by Avnet and Nazarian.
In the study, Milton Rokeach experimented on three paranoid schizophrenic men who believed they were Jesus Christ. He encouraged the three patients from a mental asylum to be in a support group and engage with one another while manipulating the aspects of their delusions. Dinklage, Whitford and Goggins will play the three patients, The Tracking Board reported.
The doctor treated the three patients at Michigan's Ypsilanti State Hospital and what happened was both deeply moving and comic, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The director will likewise produce the film via Brooklyn Films with Dr. Aaron Stern and Molly Hassell of Hassel Free Productions. Highland Film Group's Delphine Perrier and Arianne Fraser will produce and finance the project while CAA will represent domestic rights.
Repped by CAA and Insight, Dinklage will also be a part of "The Thicket and the Jester," after lending his voice to the Might Eagle in "The Angry Birds Movie." The 47-year-old is currently in HBO's blockbuster series that gave him Emmy nominations and awards.
Goggins recently showed up in "The Hateful Eight" and currently stars on HBO comedy series "Vice Principals." Repped by ICM and Darris Hatch Management, Goggins was on six seasons of "Justified" on FX. More known in his work at NBC's "West Wing," Whitford of ICM and Greenlight Management and Production, recently won an Emmy for "Transparent."
"Three Christs," a film that can be a hot-button one, brings back Avnet and Gere together after working on MGM's "Red Corner." The controversial 1997 movie led to the revoke of the Chinese citizenship of actress Bai Ling.
Meanwhile, Gere will also appear in "The Dinner," a star-studded family drama by Oren Moverman which will star Chloe Sevigny, Laura Linney, Steve Coogan and Rebecca Hall.
