Tumblr is planning to launch their new "Live Video on Tumblr" feature amidst the increasingly common livestreaming features today on social media networks.
The microblogging site is launching their new Live Video feature with a series of weird but seemingly funny streams from several Tumblr users. Streams will start in several hours as the official feature is expected to launch officially on 5:00 PM EST.
Facebook probably made livestreaming more mainstream than even with their Facebook Live feature. However, several problems rose as some streamers stream movies and live events illegally as one person has already been arrested in the United States by doing so.
Live Video on Tumblr will be joining Amazon's Twitch, Facebook Live, Twitter's Periscope and YouTube's own live streaming feature. The launching of the new live streaming feature on Tumblr will be promoted with several streams of selected users, TechCrunch has learned.
Some of the streams, which seems to start at 4:00PM EST, include inflating a large object in a small room, a live question and answer session with Adam J. Kurtz and a live broadcast from the surface of Mars. Details about how the average users will be able to live stream are not yet clearly defined.
Tumblr's Live Video feature is set to launch on June 21 with little details on the promotional page, Engadget reported. The rest of the feature could be revealed during the #tumblrpowerhour between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM EST.
With several popular options for live streaming already available, it could be hard for Tumblr to compete with the larger names. They could still have a chance considering that there are many niche blogs that can still pump out fresh content that are otherwise not possible on Facebook and Twitter due to their different userbase and character limits.
Time will tell whether Live Video on Tumblr will be able to keep up with Periscope from Twitter, Facebook Live, Twitch from Amazon and YouTube. More details will be unveiled on the launching hour between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM EST together with the weird but intriguing live streams that Tumblr will provide to showcase their new live steaming feature on the microblogging site.
