Once in a rare while, it is a Chinese man who is caught by a jealous husband having sex with his wife which results in physical violence. But most of the time, it is the other way around.
And that was happened again in Bozhou City, Anhui Province, reported What's on Weibo. Like previous similar videos which had gone viral on Chinese social media, this one showed the angry wife stripping the blouse of the alleged mistress and repeatedly slapping and kicking the other woman.
The crowd behaved like in previous instances with around 20 people just watching the beating, while a few were taking video using their mobile phone. One woman, besides shooting the beating, also hit the alleged mistress occasionally and would pull the other woman’s hair to have a clearer shot of her face.
The incident happened at the intersection of Guangming West Street and Tang Wang Main Street, near the entrance of a large apartment compound.
The video got mixed responses from Chinese netizens. One Weibo user found the wife a bitch and wrote, “No wonder her husband has another woman.” Another acknowledged that it is wrong to have a mistress but pointed out beating and stripping naked the other woman is against the law.
But some took the side of the angry wife and said the mistress deserved the punishment. “Regardless of the law, this woman deserves to lose face,” a Weibo user added.
The apathy of many Chinese who witness such incidents is due to the belief that those matters are personal and should be left for the parties to settle.
According to Jieyu Liu, deputy director of the China Institute at the School of Oriental and African Studies, acquiring a beautiful young mistress is the ultimate status symbol among rich and powerful people in China. Time cited a study by Renmin University that 95 percent of top Chinese government officials jailed for corruption in 2012 had mistresses, while the downfall of 60 percent were due to the expensive habits of their other women.
