"Game of Thrones" season 6 finale ended with a lot of deaths, but the most tragic one was that of King Tommen's. The soft-hearted King jumped to his death from the window of the Red Keep after seeing the explosive massacre, wreaked by his vengeful mother.
It was really a painful sight for fans and the same holds true for Dean-Charles Chapman, the actor who played King Tommen on the show. Recently, the 18-year-old actor opened up about his character's suicide and other dimensions, according to Winter Is Coming. Talking about Tommen's death, he said that the showrunners told him about it a night before the scene was shot with the cast and they said it quite nicely.
As for the jumping stunt, Chapman told Vulture that it was not too hard, but took a lot of face plants. He also revealed that they tried to film Tommen's reaction in different ways, but decided on keeping it shell-shocked to convey the depth of his grief and disillusionment with his mother.
He also acknowledged that Tommen was a powerless king and a little too gullible, but it was Cersei who had led him to this state. He stated that she had always shielded him and that prevented him from learning important lessons in life. At the end of the day, the guilt of having done nothing had become a little too much for him to bear and this is why, he decided to kill himself.
Chapman admitted that it was Tommen's biggest folly to be kind-hearted and anti-violence in a world that thrived on violence, murder and politics. He said that he could have made better decisions, had he been a little stronger, but his pacifist nature got everyone killed. Calling it a shame to be a non-violent king in Westeros, he said that it was no wonder Tommen was killed because of this very trait.
Lastly, Chapman also expressed a wish to see Tommen fighting someone and in jest, named The Hound and The Mountain as his adversaries. Well, all one can say is that this wishful fight would have really generated interest of every viewer.
