It has been more than a week since "Game of Thrones" Season 6 finale wrapped up but fans have still not come to terms with the fact that it is over. The latest news about Season 7 is not going to cheer them either.
According to io9, the wait is going to get longer as Season 7 is very likely to premiere later in 2017, not in April, like the normal schedule. This is because it needs winter to show up to shoot the scenes for the upcoming season. Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss revealed this fact in a podcast interview with UFC Unfiltered.
They said that they are starting a bit later because winter has still not arrived and the sunny weather does not serve their purpose any more. And this is why, they have pushed everything down the line so that they could get some grim grey weather even for the sunnier places that they shoot at.
As fans know, the next season revolves around the deadly winter about which Ned Stark and others had been warning in the previous seasons. And it will engulf even the sunnier and hot lands of Westeros, which is what makes shooting a difficult task.
The production team needs the winter aura to make the scenes look authentic and thus, till the weather gods relent, not much can be done. Once winter sets in, cameras will roll and all the action shall begin without any delay.
It is worth mentioning here that the HBO series has only two more seasons left in its kitty. Also, these two seasons are going to be shorter than the six seasons that have aired till date. Till now, every season featured 10 episodes each, but the next two seasons will have altogether 13 episodes.
Therefore, the delay in shooting will not affect the seasons' ending time much. The upcoming season might not debut in April and take a little longer but both are likely to end by June. So, even if winter comes late, the curtains will come down at the expected time.
