New Manchester United head coach Jose Mourinho is reportedly plotting a great sale at the Old Trafford this summer as he puts four of the club's mainstays, namely Juan Mata, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Daley Blind, and Marcos Rojo all on the vending table.
Caught Offside reported that the 53-year-old Portuguese boss is "set to make more changes to his squad than expected" and that the four aforementioned players are all at risk of being sold this offseason as they allegedly "don't fit into his plans" moving forward.
Mourinho had already executed three signings during this year's summer transfer window with big names Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Zlatan Ibrahimović all set for the Red Devils next season.
Speculations abound that the Special One is not finished with his roster revamp yet and a couple more moves should be expected until the window closes on September 1.
However, the report noted that selling four players with the preseason friendlies set to begin next week "would be a relatively drastic move" for Mourinho and that the team may find it difficult to find their replacements in time for the start of the new season in August.
The 28-year-old Mata was a former player of the Red Devils coach and he was actually the one who sold him to United when they were still together at Chelsea in January 2014. Mourinho did not even let the Spaniard finish the season because he allegedly deems him too frail for his ideal midfield lineup.
Meanwhile, Germany captain Schweinsteiger had struggled with his fitness all season last term and has not been effective in the physical nature of football in England at all.
Blind played well for Louis van Gaal but there are still doubts "whether he's the type of defender that Mourinho prefers" while Rojo is allegedly set to be tested in the early weeks of preseason if the coach finds "reliable enough" in the foreseeable future.
The Daily Record indicated that a fourth big-name signing is in the horizon for the Red Devils as Mourinho gears up in bringing Paul Pogba back to the Old Trafford as the club is having ongoing talks with Juventus for a new world transfer record deal of at least £100 million.
The mind-blowing amount said to have turned off Real Madrid's interest and so United is now all alone in the race for the Frenchman.
Mourinho ensured that a fourth signing will happen before the new season opens in August.
