YG Entertainment dropped the official date for its new girl group BLACKPINK debut. The group is probably aiming for "Rookie of the Year" award at Mnet Asia Music Award 2016.
BLACKPINK debut is scheduled later this month and the debut song will be revealed on the actual debut. However, International Business Times reported that the group has filmed two MVs for their album and they will film six more. This hinted that the group will debut with a full album and not a mini album.
Teddy will be the main producer of the new girl group. It was thought that G-Dragon will be the producer of the girls, but it seems that Teddy has more songs fit for a girl group. Teddy has been in charge of 2NE1's albums. Thus, we can expect songs similar to 2NE1.
YG Entertainment has officially revealed the members of BLACKPINK - Jennie Kim, Lalisa Manoban, Kim Jisoo, and Park Chaeyoung. Yibada previously reported that the new YG girl group will have four members like its sunbae group 2NE1.
So far, the members reminded YG fans of 2NE1 members. Jennie Kim as the charismatic leader and main rapper CL; Lisa as dancing machine Minzy; Jisoo as group's visual and center like YG's prettiest Dara; and Park Chaeyoung as the main vocal.
The sudden need for a girl group arises when the contract of the label's OG girl group 2NE1 expired and the group's youngest member Minzy decided not to renew and leave the agency. Minzy is now reportedly signed to Music Works and will go solo. With 2NE1 still in hiatus because of Park Bom's scandal, CL's imminent US debut, and Dara's budding acting and hosting career, YG has no flagship girl group.
