Pokemon Go recently made a record of becoming the most popular US game ever, after Candy Crush Saga that made history in 2013. Grossing more than 20 million daily active users, the smartphone game will be noted in the U.S. history pages.
Soon after the game got released at the app store on July 6, it became an instant hit, beating Supercell's Clash Royale and Slither.io. It should be noted that Candy Crush accumulated 93 million total DAU (Daily Active Users), when it was at the peak of popularity.
What is amazing is that Pokemon Go garnered 21 million daily active users within three days of its release, which is quite a landmark. While Twitter may attract millions of users every day, Pokemon Go managed to draw more users than the highly sought-after social- networking site.
According to records, the game has been downloaded a millionth time, with data showing between 10 and 50 million times by Android users. As is stated in Similarweb estimates, the game has already been installed on 10.8 percent of Android phones across the US, Variety reported.
With millions of users playing Pokemon Go every day, the game will soon rank higher than Snapchat, given its exhilarating growth rate. However, the Pokemon Go developer, Niantic, has the biggest challenge to maintain the popularity of the game for a long tenure.
Back in 2012, "Draw Something" was a hot property and a very popular game during the time. Zynga bought OMGPOP, the game developer, for a whopping $180 million. Unfortunately "Draw Something" lost its popularity and Zynga regretted the acquisition, Phone Arena reported.
As for Pokemon Go, the game is now travelling worldwide. Recently, it launched at the Apple App store and UK Google Play Store. This means iPhone users can download the game on their iOS phones like their Android counterparts.
Pokemon Go is a free app developed by augmented reality company Niantic in collaboration with Pokemon Company. Users need mobile data connection along with a smartphone and GPS on it by using AR to translate real-world locations and characters into gaming elements.
The game is now available in New Zealand and Australia. According to Matt Stag, the head of EE company, "This is the fastest take-up of an app or game we've ever seen."
