As the season progressed from episode to episode, it uncovered several matches between characters, with most recent between Ryo and Megumi. Fans are already getting excited despite the series' fast pacing, and a report revealed there are only 4 matches set to happen for the current season. In the last episode, Megumi was defeated by Ryo in their face-off, however, the former gained more fans as she was able to stand against the latter's intimidating aura. Although several were hoping Megumi would triumph in the match, the charming character was taken down by Ryo's impressive cooking skills.
One Redditor pointed out in her post that this season is moving quick compared to the previous one. It can be recalled last season that the series showcased one dish per episode compared to this season's featuring of several dishes in a single one. The Redditor also aired her sentiment that the series' current scheme takes the tension out of it.
Moving on to the next match, Takumi and the newly-introduced character, Subaru will be battling against each other in episode 4. Subaru was already introduced last season, showing off as a huge fellow with several hair braids. Although the character gave a friendly aura and impression, he has few mysterious behaviors normal players do not have, Anime News Network pointed out.
The report emphasized that Subaru knows his opponents very well, down to the kind of underwear they wear and how much sleeping hours they get every night. He is also very competitive that before his match with Takumi even started, he hits the latter's weak spot and spit out his gum to Takumi's mezzaluna knife which may render the knife unusable during battle.
Episode 4 of "Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma: The Second Plate" is titled, "The Pursuer" and will air on July 23. Takumi and Subaru's battle will take off from this episode and viewers will see who triumphs during the match.
