Director Justin Li who has been promoting "Star Trek Beyond" commented on the adaptation of the classic samurai manga "Lone Wolf and Cub." Lin, who is also known to direct the franchise "Fast and Furious" 3 to 6, had a great career detour when he was with "Star Trek."

While in the promotional rounds of "Star Trek Beyond," Lin was asked about his next movie project. It happened that the adaptation of the manga comic came to him even before J.J. Abrams called him for "Star Trek."

The director is glad that he can revisit the manga comic adaptation following all the press works for "Star Trek," which is set to release on July 22. It is rumored that the Taiwanese American film director will return to "Fast and Furious" as well.

"For the last year and a half I've been on this Star Trek detour, the greatest detour of my career," Lin told Empire during an interview for a special podcast. "But I'm excited because Lone Wolf and Cub is one of many projects that I can't wait to go back and revisit in the next two weeks when we're done with all the press."

Five to 10 years earlier, the people involved in the movie-making of the Japanese manga were eyeing at Keanu Reeves to play the father in the classic Japanese manga, but Lin implied he plans to have an Asian cast. The filming has gone global as there are ways to create a movie and Lin was convinced it is the best time to make the manga and to embrace the essence of what is great.

The "Lone Wolf and Cub" was published in 1970 by artist Goseki Kojima and writer Kazuo Koike. With a story about shogun killers, there were already seven films in Japan that adapted the series, but nothing from Hollywood yet.

Meanwhile, there is live action remake of Kojima and Koike's story going on in Steven Paul's SP International Pictures, Variety reported. The film has been described as a "Kozure Okami: Sono Chisaki Te Ni" remake, "Lone Wolf and Cub: Final Conflict." It will be filmed in Thailand and China, and basically with a Japanese cast.
