Samsung has announced that it has found and addressed a manufacturing problem that led to waterproofing issues found in some Galaxy S7 Active devices.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 Active phone is one of the smartphone units that boasts of a waterproofing feature. Samsung has marketed the said unit as a phone than can withstand 30 minutes of full submersion in around 5 feet of water. However, several tests conducted by consumer groups and news outlets found several flaws with the device's waterproof claims.
It appears that Samsung has taken notice of the feedback and conducted its own investigation to discover the source of the waterproofing flaw. In an email statement sent to CNET, the company disclosed that it has found a problem in the Galaxy S7 Active's production line and has already addressed the issue.
However, Samsung did not elaborate on the said manufacturing line issue. Although the company has assured that the problem has already been fixed. Samsung also stated that the company has received minimal customer queries on the unit's waterproofing issue. The South Korean firm has even shared that it is open to replacing Galaxy S7 Active units that became water damaged following the guidelines indicated in its standard limited warranty.
A similar statement was also issued to Consumer Reports that also previously conducted a water dunk test for the said Samsung phone. At this time, it is still unclear how many Samsung Galaxy S7 Active users requested for a phone replacement due to the initial waterproofing issues. The company's public relations executive Phil Berne has shared that the number of water damaged units were minimal as compared to the total number of S7 Active phones sold.
He also commented that the new units being shipped out to various retailers and stores are now problem free, as stated in the same report. However, Samsung has not issued a product recall of unsold S7 Active phone devices currently available in the market. Berne commented that affected users may ask for a product replacement given the company's one-year limited warranty. However, he reiterated that the company will only replace water damaged S7 Active units.
