Alan Wake and Quantum Break developer Remedy Entertainment is teaming up with Korea's Smilegate to develop the story mode campaign of Crossfire 2, a sequel to one of the largest shooters in Asia.
Remedy Entertainment has seen success in making the first Max Payne video game plus the iconic Alan Wake which was considered to be one of the best horror video games in terms of storytelling. Now, their next project is to bring a good narrative as well to the sequel for Crossfire.
Crossfire publisher Smilegate Entertainment has announced the partnership during the ChinaJoy expo. Remedy will co-develop Crossfire 2 to bring their specialties in the campaign mode of the game, Polygon has learned.
It would be interesting to see what Remedy has to offer in terms of transforming a Korean MMO into a single player masterpiece. Crossfire currently has no single player campaign and is a free to play shooter that pits players against others across the world although most of the player base is located in Asia.
Crossfire 2 could still be a free-to-play shooter game but the inclusion of a single player campaign does raise the interest of some considering that the game is not big in the United States or the United Kingdom. Remedy may be able to put the sequel into the spotlight once it releases.
Remedy said that they have already been working on Crossfire 2 for some time but there are still no trailers or teasers available for the upcoming game, Engadget reported. A feature film adaptation of the first game is also in the works which means that the game is really big in Asia and it could be looking into an expansion in terms of marketing the title across the globe to rake in more players.
Crossfire has a similar gameplay to Counter Strike but with some different mechanics in terms of how the weapons work and how they can be purchased. Crossfire 2 could introduce better graphics and more multiplayer modes as well.
Smilegate and Remedy has not disclosed the Crossfire 2 release date. The companies have not announced whether Crossfire 2 will be a free-to-play shooter as well.
