Apple will reportedly introduce the next iPhone September 2016 but the actual release date will not happen until the 16th while preorder will begin on the 9th. Coming out of the box is rumored to be called iPhone 7 and 7 Plus for the bigger model with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory and dual camera set up.
The 2016 iPhones stepping up to 3GB RAM was first reported by KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo but the note also made clear that the RAM upgrade is only for the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus, purportedly in support for its dual camera feature that will not be available to the 4.7-inch regular iPhone 7.
But in a new development, Apple Insider said that 3GB RAM bump now appears to be across the board, meaning the two new iPhone models to replace the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus will deploy with higher RAM provisions than their immediate predecessors. Apple issued its flagship phone in 2015 both boasting 2GB of RAM.
This year, the RAM on new iPhones will get higher, Apple Insider said, pointing to Taiwan-based DigiTimes publication as source. "The report (by DigiTimes) simply mentioned the iPhone 7," the tech news site added.
As higher RAM and more powerful camera (though keeping the 12MP main shooter) are seemingly confirmed for the next iPhone, and so is the storage capacity, which BGR said is likely to increase by 100% from the 2015 iPhones. As such, the new memory configuration will be 32GB, 128GB and 256GB from the 16GB/64GB/128GB storage setup of both the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.
The same BGR report is predicting too that even as the iPhone 7 will pack significant upgrades from the last version, the pricing will remain the same, at least for the unlock or SIM-free models. The starting price thus is $650 for the regular size and $750 for the phablet option.
As for the build and design, the next iPhone is believed to take after the iPhone 6S but with marked physical revisions. Gone will be the 3.5mm audio port and in its stead, a stereo audio blaster. The mechanical Home button will also give way to its capacitive successor with Touch ID and 3D Touch features.
The rear antenna band has also been pushed farther to the edge of the device while the camera lens will be larger than the last version and more so for the iPhone 7 Plus. Kuo said that the new iPhones will be a tad slimmer than the 6S and 6S Plus but the batteries will be bigger, which translate to increased power juice.
As mentioned, the iPhone 7 release date will happen September 16 although days earlier or September 6 Apple CEO Tim Cook will unveil the new smartphone flagships, powered by A10 chip and iOS 10, per the leaks provided by Evan Blass or @evleaks.
