"Fifty Shades Of Grey" has been the talk of the town since last year and by the time it has reached cinemas, the much-awaited movie did not fail to top the box office. It remains number one on its second week.
The erotic flick starring Dakota Johansson and Jamie Dornan is dubbed as a BDSM (bondage/discipline, dominance/submission) and is based on the book written by E.L. James. However, despite its success, movie critics say it has only aroused enough interest to be at the top but once people get to watch the flick, the interest faded fast, according to USA Today.
The steamy flick grossed $23.2 million but it is a steep plummet from the $81.7 million last week, which is a record-setting amount.
The leading lady of the movie, Johnson, who plays the role of Anastasia Steel, will actually be at the 87th annual Oscars Awards on Feb. 22, Sunday, as a presenter for one of the categories. The flick was also mentioned during the opening of the Oscars when Jack Black sang a few lines in the performance prepared by Oscars host Neil Patrick Harris.
As for the second movie in the box office, Fox's action drama titled "Kingsman: The Secret Service" grossed more than $67 million as of this weekend. The third film rounding up the top three in the box office hits is "SpongeBobSquarepants: Sponge Out of Water" that grossed $15.5 million. The final figures are expected to be announced on Feb. 23, Monday.
Other films in the top ten of the box office are "McFarland USA," "The DUFF," "American Sniper," "Hot Tub Time Machine 2," "Jupiter Ascending," "The Imitation Game," and "Paddington," according to Cinema Blend.
"American Sniper" and "The Imitation Game" are nominated in the 87th Oscars.
