"Suicide Squad" was supposed to be an offbeat treat, but it has turned out to be a damp squib as the anti-heroes are nowhere up to the mark. But still the movie is expected to draw millions of fans in the opening weeks.
"Suicide Squad" villains fail to arouse terror or disgust and at the most, are an eyesore, E! News claims. Killer Croc takes the cake in this regard. The scaly creature is not at all villainous but he is definitely not a sight one would like to bear for long. As for Slipknot, his role is so short that his presence is barely felt. He is blown off by the Special Forces when he tries to escape and that is all about him.
Watching Boomerang is also not much terrifying and he looks more of a bully than a badass villain but the most annoying of the group is Enchantress. She seems to be carrying too many masks and it makes her truly the worst. Thankfully, all is not bad and some do have the sparks to make the movie worth a watch.
Diablo seems like a disappointment at first but this human fireball possess great powers and what makes him interesting is that he has abandoned his powers. Coming to the charmers, it is Deadshot (Will Smith) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) that salvage the show. Will impresses as the gun-obsessed assassin and owns the moments when he shoots, threatens and fools around with other baddies.
As for Quinn, she is crazy and screwed up. In fact, she is the best. The directors would have done well not to objectify her so much but she rocks, in her own maniacal way. One only wishes it held true for The Joker as well. Though Jared Leto tries hard, he fails to inspire and the overacting does him in.
Notably, the movie has not received favorable reviews from critics but it is expected to earn anywhere from $100 million to $140 million, in the first weekend, Forbes reported. It might even make less than "Superman V Batman," which is definitely not what Warner Brothers would like. Still, it merits applause.
Kudos to the marketing team for creating all the hype. Audiences are certainly coming to the theaters.
