"Jason Bourne" stars Matt Damon, 45, and Alicia Vikander, 27, attended a press conference to promote their upcoming film in Beijing, China. The fifth installment of the "Bourne" film series is slated to be released in China on Aug. 23.
In the upcoming film, Damon reprises his role as a former CIA assassin and psychogenic amnesiac, Jason Bourne, along with Vikander joining the cast as the head of the CIA Cyber Ops Division named Heather Lee. Damon, whose popularity in China has increased since "The Martian" movie, is hoping "Jason Bourne" will also be a success.
"Hopefully, it will find a big audience here in China, but we'll see, the audience will be the judge," CCTV.com quoted Damon as saying before a predominantly Chinese crowd. "It's a good place for every film, it's one of the biggest markets in the world... This is an incredibly important place."
The upcoming action film will once again follow Bourne, who remains on the run from CIA hit squads. Now, completely recouped from his amnesia, the former CIA assassin collaborates with Nicolette "Nicky" Parsons (Julia Stiles) to uncover more explosive truths behind his father's death.
Hence, CIA Director Robert Dewey (Tommy Lee Jones) orders CIA cyber head, Heather Lee (Vikander), to chase down the pair. The film also stars Riz Ahmed as Deep Dream CEO Aaron Kalloor and Vincent Cassel as a Blackbriar assassin.
"The 'Bourne' movies are always about something," said Damon, adding that the latest installment focuses on all the issues of cyber warfare and civil liberties. "There's a major issue of privacy versus security and these digital lives that we all have. You know, these are the central questions that face every country in the world right now."
Meanwhile, Damon has signed to star in Zhang Yimou's upcoming film, "The Great Wall." Set in Northern Song Dynasty, the upcoming action-packed film explores the mysteries behind the construction of The Great Wall of China, Collider reported.
