Barry Allen is facing not one, but two speedsters in "The Flash" Season 3. One thing is for sure, Teddy Spears, who played Zoom in Season 2, is back to play another menacing speedster in the new outing.
In "The Flash" Season 2, Zoom was transformed into the monstrous Black Flash after Barry defeated him. What happened to him thereafter remains a mystery, but probably not for long.
"The Flash" executive producer Andrew Kreisberg teased the possibility of Sears' return in the series. "We love working with Teddy. He's such an amazing actor and amazing person, and was so much a part of the success of this show last season," Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly.
In the comic books, Black Flash predominantly appears as "an omen of death to those connected to the Speed Force." With this character background, fans can hope that his agenda is more than just stealing Barry's speed force.
As previously confirmed, the Black Flash is not the only villain Barry is faced with in "The Flash" Season 3. For one, there's another evil speedster in Central City. Savitar was confirmed as one of the two main antagonists in the upcoming season.
Distinguishing Savitar from past speedsters, executive producer Todd Helbing told IGN that Savitar is "more of a psychological villain in a weird way."
"I think the Hindu word for Savitar means God of Speed; he's all about speed. Everything about this guy is different. I can't go into super detail, but he's not like Zoom or Reverse Flash," he added.
Savitar was a pilot from a third-world nation during the Cold War period. He gained his speed force after his plane was struck with lightning; however, he is not like any other speedster. Aside from super speed and strength, Savitar has the ability to transfer speed to other people and objects.
In "The Flash" Season 3, Savitar will be associated with Dr. Alchemy as both their plans "are not much different."
Dealing with baddies aside, family remains a central element in the show. With the "Flashpoint" storyline in play, viewers will see Barry living with his mother and father, although he has to face the consequences of his time-altering decision.
"The Flash" premieres on The CW on Oct. 4.
