"Empire" Season 3, an upcoming season of the American musical drama television series would focus more on the strained relationship between Lucious and Cookie. While reflecting on Season 2 and teasing the new episodes of "Empire", Terrence Howard who acts as Lucious revealed that there is a lot of "heartbreak" in store.
The "Empire" series which is only a month away from premiering its new season will see some of its fan get a couple boxes of Kleenex nearby when the show returns for Season 3 due to the expected heartbreaks. In the new season, fans should not expect anything good because there is only pain and more heartbreak to follow.
In a behind-the-scenes video posted by Variety Thursday, Howard and some of the crew highlighted what fans can expect, and it seems like the Lyon family has some hard times ahead of them. One thing fans will see more of in the new season is Lucious' mom Leah Walker (Leslie Uggams) and his half-brother who surprisingly works in an occupation where Lucious would not want him. In the video, it is teased that Walker is going to be Lucious' "kryptonite" and according to Lucious, she is a very dangerous mum in the season as she could ultimately be a threat to his life.
Malcolm Spellman, Co-executive producer also noted that Lucious wants to get "control" over his family again because he realizes that his "family is the business." As for what the new episodes will be like, Howard says in the video: "From what they have established thus far, there is a lot of heartbreak to come."
In an interview Monday, Taraji P. Henson (Cookie Lyon) confirmed in Extra TV that either Kaitlin Doubleday's Rhonda or Grace Gealey's Anika dies. The previous season of the musical drama ended up killing one of the main cast members.
As far as Lucious and Cookie's relationship is concerned, it was left even more strained because Lucious in a surprising twist ended up marrying Anika. Cookie has already suffered one so it remains to be seen who gets hurt next when "Empire" is back on.
"Empire" Season 3 premieres on Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. EDT on Fox.
