Porn videos and websites are often free but there are still some who prefer premium accounts to watch HD videos and hackers managed to spill nearly 800,000 Brazzers Porn accounts to the dark web.
Brazzers premium accounts allow users to view exclusive content and HD videos which are otherwise not available to the free websites. They typically cost several dollars per month or per year depending on the plan that viewers want to buy.
Hackers have managed to dump over 790,000 unique email addresses from the Brazzers accounts and they include the passwords in plain text which is highly alarming, Motherboard has learned. All in all, there were more than 920,000 accounts but a percentage of them were duplicates which are useless.
Security researcher Troy Hunt tried to contact the subscribers based on the dumped Brazzers accounts and many have confirmed the details found on the data base. Brazzers Public Relations Manager Matt Stevens confirmed the hack and said that the incident was similar to what happened with their Brazzersforum site from 2012.
The vulnerability or exploit was blamed at the third-party software used to maintain the site and not within the Brazzers server itself. Brazzers said that the breach was done through the vBulletin software and Hunt confirmed it by saying that the said software was not updated with security patches, BBC News reported.
Fortunately, not all of the users with the porn site accounts are in trouble. Brazzers said that they have already taken the necessary steps to protect their users.
In addition, most users tend to use random usernames and passwords for their porn site accounts. This way, the hackers may find it hard to gain access to other accounts because they would not be able to reuse the usernames and passwords.
The Brazzersforum accounts could just be a minor inconvenience for some but users who used the same usernames and passwords on their other accounts may find it troubling. They are urged to change their passwords immediately especially if they use the same one on their social media and banking accounts.
Brazzers is currently displaying an under maintenance message on their forum site as they continue to patch up the problem. There are no Brazzers users yet that reported their other accounts being hacked due to the data breach.
