Stoke City settled to a 1-1 draw with newly-promoted team Middlesbrough to open their season before being demolished by Manchester City in their next game, 1-4.
The Potters were then nipped by undefeated side Everton FC, 0-1, on the road at the Goodison Park last Aug. 27 for their second consecutive loss this season, as per SkySports.
An own goal from Stoke City goalkeeper Shay Given at the 51st minute was the deciding goal of the match. Toffees defender Leighton Baines' spot kick hits the goal post but rebounded off Given towards the net, giving the hosts the win and three points.
Head coach Mark Hughes' boys pushed for an equalizer for the rest of the second half headed by Austrian winger Marko Arnautovic, but they were not able to beat the stingy Toffees' defense until time expired.
Meanwhile, last season's third-place squad, Tottenham Hotspur, held fellow contenders Liverpool FC to a 1-1 tie at the White Hart Lane also on Aug. 27 to remain undefeated in three games so far this term, the Daily Express reported.
Reds midfielder James Milner started the scoring via a penalty kick at the 43rd minute to give the visitors a one point lead at the half.
However, the Spurs were not to be denied as defender Danny Rose found the equalizer at the 72nd as he directs a header pass from Erik Lamela towards the back of Simon Mignolet's net.
It was the second drawn match for head coach Mauricio Pochettino's squad early in the season and they will try to get better against the Potters in this match.
