PC gamers who are planning to upgrade their rigs would benefit from Microsoft's ongoing promo where buying an NVIDIA GTX 1070 or GTX 1080 card will net them a free Gears of War 4 copy.
The promotion will run until October 30 which is several weeks after the Gears of War 4 release date. It could be part of Microsoft's marketing campaign for the Xbox Play Anywhere feature as users who have either a PC or an Xbox One copy will be able to play it on both the platforms.
Microsoft's team up with NVIDIA for the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 bundle with Gears of War 4 could be seen as a hint that their upcoming Xbox One "Project Scorpio" console will be powered by the green team's GPU instead of AMD's, The Verge has learned. The Xbox One currently has an AMD GPU inside and earlier rumors did claim that the new console will have a modified version of the new Polaris GPU from the company.
Gears of War 4 seems to be a title for PC graphics enthusiasts as it will support 4K plus the recommended requirements do require a GTX 980 Ti. NVIDIA even uploaded a video of the game running at the highest settings in 4K powered by a GTX 1080.
The NVIDIA GTX 1080 also seems to be a good card to make the most of Gears of War 4 through 4K although a smooth 60 frames per second is not guaranteed, PC World reported. Microsoft also made the game to support DX12 and several capabilities for HDR, FreeSync and G-Sync monitors for everyone to enjoy whether they are using an AMD, NVIDIA card or playing through a console.
Those who only have a budget gaming PC would still be able to play Gears of War 4 at the lowest settings with at least a GTX 750 Ti. Of course, players would not be able to run it at its full glory and they could be better off playing it through the Xbox One.
Microsoft's Gears of War 4 bundle with the GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 will surely entice more players to switch to NVIDIA if they want to upgrade their hardware. In addition, the game will be available to be played on the Xbox One too using Microsoft's Xbox Play Anywhere feature.
