P.A. Works announced at the Kyoto International Anime Fair on Sept. 18 that "The Eccentric Family" Season 2 has already begun production.
Announced by novel author Tomihiko Morimi, series director Masayuki Yoshihara, CEO Kenji Horikawa and two voice actors, the sequel would be titled "Uchoten Kazoku 2," Anime News Network reported.
The same report added that main casts such Takahiro Sakurai as Yasaburo Shimogamo, Junichi Suwabe as Yochiro Shimogamo, Hiroyuki Yoshino as Yajiro Shimogamo, Mai Nakahara as Yajiro Shimogamo and Mamiko Noto as Benten will be returning to the anime series.
The story revolves around the life of the Shimogamo family which started with the pursuit of Yasaburo Shimogamo on what really caused the death of his father. It was told that his father was eaten as a hot pot by some human members of a group called the "Friday Club."
When asked regarding the sequel's story, Morimi said that he has again produced a novel that is "difficult to visualize," saying he was not able to consider the difficulties the production staff may undergo because he just cannot withhold his fantasies. Despite these, he is hoping that this sequel will be greater than the first installment.
Meanwhile, series director Yoshihara added that the highlight of "The Eccentric Family" Season 2 is the "attractive" new characters. He also advised viewers to watch and read season 1 first to enjoy the upcoming chapter of the series.
On the other hand, Horikawa said they felt the need to become more adventurous in Season 2 in order to visually adapt the novel. He also pointed out that if they do not carefully conduct production, they will end up in the Tanuki pot, Crunchyroll reported.
"The Eccentric Family" won an "Excellence Award" during the 17th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards in 2013, which is the only anime to receive the said honor. It is expected that more details will be revealed by P.A. Works in the coming days. As of the moment, readers are advised to watch out for the succeeding details that will be announced by the production.
