Samsung intends to replace the Galaxy S7 with a handset boosted both in the CPU and GPU departments. On release date, the Galaxy S8 will be powered by the Exynos 8895 processing chip while the display prowess will be all fired up thanks to ARM's Mali-G71 graphics engine, news reports said.
With the rumored GPU upgrade, the Galaxy S8 is tipped to greatly benefit from "40 percent better performance density and 20 percent external memory bandwidth," Android Central said in a report, pointing to ARM's documentation that explains the immense improvements packed with the Mali-G71 chip.
The report added that Samsung will opt for the 10nm process of the ARM graphics chip that will ensure of faster and more efficient rendering of the GPU with the Galaxy S8. And among the immediate feature bumps that users can expect are 4K display resolution and virtual reality or VR capabilities.
Android Central also suggested that 4K display in the GS8 will be implemented in the same way that Sony deployed the feature with the Xperia Z5 Premium. While 4K display is the S8's native resolution it will only fire up for compatible contents - for lower resolution pictures and videos, the chip will instead revert to 1080p mode.
The goal is to achieve a more efficient power use and to extend battery life, the report said.
There was no mention on how exactly Exynos 8895 will differ from the main engine that was used with the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge and Note 7 buy it's safe to assume that the newer chip will deliver more computing power and speed while highlighting the same efficient use of battery juice with the Mali-G71 chip. It is expected that the Galaxy S8 will have at least 6GB of RAM provision, improving form the 4GB RAM seen with its immediate predecessors.
Early rumors also indicate that Samsung plans to kill flat-screen edition of its flagship as supply chain talks hinted that starting with the Galaxy S8, the double-edge curved screen will be the standard. However, like the S7 the Galaxy S8 will still unbox in two flavors - a 5-inch model and 5.5-inch edition.
And the chance is high that the Galaxy S8 release date will happen earlier than expected as analysts predicted that such a move from Samsung will mitigate the negative impact of the Galaxy Note 7 global recall. It's possible that an intro will take place via the Las Vegas CES 2017 in January with the rollout to follow shortly in February.
