Goran Dragic has denied reports that he's unhappy with the Miami Heat's current situation, after the ballclub lost both All-Star shooting guard Dwayne Wade and power forward Chris Bosh this summer.
Dragic, who signed a five-year, $90M deal a year ago, stressed that he remains committed with the team despite taking a step back this season following the departure of the two stars.
The Slovenian playmaker generated quite a buzz the past few days after his interview with NBA.com writer David Aldridge. Dragic seems to imply that he's unhappy where the Heat is currently at, being a part again of a rebuilding team after his futile tenure with the Phoenix Suns.
"You're right," was Dragic's reply for the David Aldridge story posted on NBA.com via Real GM, continuing, "but the main thing is, I want to win games. Of course, I want to win the championship. But, how you say: you need to go one step back to go two steps forward."
Dragic stated that his message was not properly conveyed. He assured Heat fans that he's still enjoying his stay with his current team
"He asked me that question: Didn't I sign to be part of a great team, championship team? I said, 'Yeah, of course.' Then I said sometimes your career, this is business, you cannot have every decision go the way you want it on your own."
"This is a team decision. Sometimes you need to do two steps back to go one step forward. I'm happy to be here. This is the team that I want to be here. But I understand this is business."
The Heat traded for Dragic in 2015, hoping the up-and-coming point guard will be the missing piece in the post-LeBron era championship puzzle. However, things didn't wind down as planned as Bosh struggled with his blood clotting problem and Wade leaving Miami for greener pastures in Chicago.
All what is left is Dragic and center Hassan Whiteside, who has emerged as the franchise's player for the team.
