Since the summertime hit drama concluded in July, there has not been any updates from FOX whether "Wayward Pines" Season 3 will be renewed or not. Lately, it has been reported that the supernatural drama may face its fate of cancellation following the poor viewership and ratings of the previous season.

Season 2 averaged 2.4 million/ 0.7 total viewers compared with Season 1's 3.8 million/1.1 demo rating in Live+Same Day ratings. When it comes to the DVD playback, Season 1 had 2.2 million/0.7 while the second run averaged 3.5 million/1.1 demo rating. These figures are reportedly the reasons why "Wayward Pines" Season 3 has not received its green light yet.

"I definitely think there could be a Season 3," TV Line quoted Fox Television Group co-chairman/CEO Dana Walden as saying at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in August. The producers "have a really compelling for Season 3 that I liked very much. We're definitely talking about the show right now."

Walden confirmed that FOX is still weighing things out before they finally set a green light for "Wayward Pines" Season 3. Despite FOX keeping mum on the issue, she assured that they already have a plot for Season 3. "Wayward Pines" author Blake Crouch reportedly disclosed that they already have a plan on how the story will go for the new season.

Amidst the uncertainty of "Wayward Pines" Season 3, early spoilers revealed that the third run will be about how mankind are going to spend their last hours on earth. It is like how people are going to face their own extinction.

About the possibility of cancelling the show, reports say that Season 2 failed to amaze the viewers due to its lack of mysteries. The plot has become very boring with no new thing to look forward to. Most of the fan-favorite characters Kate Hewson (Carla Gugino), Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon), Ben Burke (Charlie Tahan) and Nurse Pam (Melissa Leo) were killed in the preceding seasons.

In the official Instagram account of "Wayward Pines," a photo of CJ (Djimon Hounsou) was shared, where he was preparing for his task as being the extinctionist. One question that viewers need to wait for in "Wayward Pines" Season 3 is whether CJ will push the button or not to fulfill mankind's extinction, according to Screener TV.

Spandex looks good on CJ. #WaywardPines
