Phil Brooks, more famously known as CM Punk, had a great wrestling career but his stint being an MMA fighter was a complete disaster. Many fans are hoping for him to return to the WWE and despite CM Punk saying it will never happen, just look at Bill Goldberg.
The nearly 38-year-old former superstar trained for his MMA debut for two years but he got squashed by Mickey Gall in under three minutes. He was submitted via rear-naked choke and his face was battered after the match.
CM Punk was very optimistic despite his loss and he wants to continue his MMA career. However, UFC president Dana White has insisted that the former WWE superstar will not fight in the UFC again. Punk might just re-start his MMA career in the amateur ranks before fighting high-level opponents.
Nevertheless, the WWE return of Goldberg this year has got fans thinking that CM Punk could make a return to the company he walked out from in 2014. Goldberg ended things with the WWE on a sour note and many people believed back then that he will never return to the Vince McMahon's company.
Fast forward to 12 long years, Goldberg is back in the WWE and he will face Brock Lesnar at the Survivor Series. It will likely be his last match before he gets inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. As for a CM punk return at the moment, it seems unlikely.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), CM Punk is telling his close friends that coming back to WWE is "loss in life." The Chicago native left the company because his character was going nowhere.
"The thing with Punk is that, according to those close to Punk, he would see going back to WWE as a loss in life, where Goldberg was just a businessman who had hard feelings about the past but would have no trouble letting them go if it was the right business," Meltzer said.
Many fans are still hoping for CM Punk to return to the company but do not expect it any moment. It could take a very long time to convince him to come back. His MMA career is likely short due to his age and he would have no choice but to return to wrestling, per The Inquisitr.
The timing for a CM Punk return will have to be right and the money is surely going to be a factor. Also, he will likely be given creative freedom since he left the WWE due to creative differences with Vince and Triple H.
