Not much was heard from singer Katy Perry after she pulled out on Thursday from the 11/11 Global Shopping Festival Gala because of a “family emergency.” The girlfriend of Orlando Bloom was the global ambassador for the Friday event which once more broke sales record.
The “Roar” singer apparently wants to keep a low profile after the pullout or is she using the time to mourn the election results in the U.S.? Perry heavily supported Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton for president, but the Electoral College voted for her rival Donald Trump even if Clinton got more popular votes.
Mirror spotted Perry hiding her face under a denim baseball cap which aptly sported the slogan “Nasty Woman” to indicate the singer’s mood after recent events. She wore a black-and-red top, blue jeans and white sneakers while spotted by photographers leaving a restaurant.
On late Thursday morning, Perry posted on her Weibo account, “Regretfully, I must cancel my appearance on the Alibaba Double 11 due to a family emergency. I am very sorry to disappoint my fans and look forward to seeing you in China soon.” Organizers of the Gala posted on its official Weibo account that since the festival is for families to celebrate and it respects family values, they hope the singer and her family could hurdle the difficult days, CRIEnglish reported.
Most of her Chinese fans were understanding and said they would wait for Perry when she performs in China as part of her world tour. The Gala still had other celebrity performers, including David and Victoria Beckham, rock band One Republic, basketball superstar Kobe Bryant, footballer Thomas Muller and other Asian artists.
Perry has not specified on her social media accounts what the family emergency was. Based on her posts, could she be using the time to mourn the election result as she tweeted “Gonna cry my false eye lashes off tonight.” Her parents, incidentally, voted for Trump although Perry said the family would still celebrate Thanksgiving together despite their political differences.
